Dresser Consolidated Awarded Contracts for Main Steam Safety Valves
Dresser Consolidated today announced it has been chosen by Westinghouse Electric Company LLC as the main steam safety valve supplier for (2) AP1000? pressurized water reactors (PWR) at Vogtle and (2) more at VC Summer.
The Dresser Consolidated 3700 Maxiflow main steam safety valves will be delivered to AP1000 nuclear power plant sites in Georgia and South Carolina between 2012 and 2014. The AP1000 reactor is the only Generation III+ reactor to receive Design Certification from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The reactors are expected to come online starting in 2016. By discharging steam to atmosphere, the 3700 main steam safety valves will ensure residual heat removal from the reactor coolant system via the steam generator, and secondary side over pressure protection during design basis accidents and transients.
