Flow direction for Axial Control Valves
Would like to know whether axial control valves of dresser design can be used in either direction of flow. Can any one guide specifically about Dresser Valve Model 78-AX-1/HW. What is the effect of using the control valve with a Fail: Close , Air: to clsoe with Flow : To close configuration used in the flow direction of Flow : To open , as the plug is slotted assume that the flow to open effect will be balanced and there will be negligible effect on the actuator. Can any one clarify.
Tried contacting Dresser on e-mail and over phone , however couldnot get
a satisfactory answer. Seems to be non committal as the vibrations were
caused due to the valve casting geometry.
These are coming under
the category of Special Valves supplied by Dresser Italia( Masoneilane )
for the gas service , under the brand Ring O Valve or Meer valves and
details are not available in their web sites either.
Any one familiar
with the Gas industry should have come accross these types of valves as
these are extensively used in the gas industry and petrochemical
industry especailly for very big sizes ( is a 28" ).
Other
manufactureres like Mockweld also have axial flow control valves
of different designs where the direction of flow is clearly defined.
However
in the dresser model the flow is channeled through an annular space
inside the valve and seems thatit can be used in either direction.
However to resolve the issue we needed a confirmation on this aspect
which is not forthcoming from the manufacturer.
