Basic

        A PLUG VALVES is a valve that can be rotated within itself, which means it is a part within another part. The inner section is sometimes called the plug. The plug can be rotated to different positions to change the flow of fluid through the valve. A handle is normally used to turn the plug and open the valve. Since the valve has a tapered inner section, turning it only part way will allow less liquid to pass due to the tampered section only shifting slightly.
    Port

        A simpler PLUG VALVES is called a port valve. It basically has two settings, closed and open. Open lets fluid flow through the valve and closed seals it off completely. There is no in between. The ports are holes that go through the plug inside the valve shell. When the plug is rotated to the open position, which is a quarter turn of the handle, the hole in the plug lines up with the valve, and fluid can move through. This valve is typically called a quarter-turn valve due to the distance the plug has to shift to open.
    Three Way

        Sometimes a PLUG VALVES can have three ports instead of two. In this instance the valve can allow water in the valve one way and out in two different directions. This type of valve is called a three-way plug valve. The connection can look like a Y or a T. Fluid going through can be set up to go to the left, right, or in both directions at once. A handle controls the opening and closing of the valve and decides the direction depending on the position of the handle.
